4 Years through 3rd Grade:
Music Basics for Kids

Children's music classes at Stony Brook are based on the teaching philosophy of Émile Jaques-Dalcroze who proposed that music does not live in the ear and fingers alone, but involves the whole body and spirit.  In class, children learn the basics of pitch, rhythm and musical notation through musical activities involving physical movement, singing and percussion. Three levels of classes are offered, each designed for a specific age and level of musical ability.

6th though 12th grade:
Pre-College Division

The Pre-College Division offers coaching and performance opportunities in chamber music and a rich curriculum that includes composition, music theory, and aural skills. Students enrolled in the program are already accomplished musicians in their schools who are looking for new, challenging and exciting experiences that are not offered anyplace else.

Post-graduate:
Chamber Music Workshop

Designed for adult music enthusiasts, the chamber music program offers a supportive, non-threatening environment for instrumentalists and singers to enrich their musical experience. Participants are placed in well-matched ensembles and meet with a coach for five 90-minute sessions in preparation for an informal concert in the Staller Recital Hall.  Two eight-week sessions per academic year, ability to read music is required.
